NOAA Oceanographer

This is a beautiful engineering scale model of the NOASS Oceanographer R101, used by NOAA from 1970-1996 after being converted from being the flagship of the U. S. Coast Guard survey duties. This large ship model features amazing detail down to the scaled anchor chains.

After completing 30 years of coastal surveying, the actual ship was then purchased by the Kirkland Yacht Club Marina to used as a breakwater in Kirkland, Washington before being sold to be converted to a luxury cruise ship in 2005. The conversion has since been canceled after a lawsuit related to a worker death which occurred during the refit and the ship is currently for sale for just under $1,000,000.
