Spanning Oregon’s Alsea River was a challenge because of the effect of salt water corrosion on the old bridge structure, requiring extensive maintenance. HNTB engineers designed the new and significantly stronger Alsea bridge replacement. HNTB commissioned this model to detail its features for a citizens advisory committee to present the new design to citizens in numerous presentations. The model helped to obtain community support for this design, another example of how engineering scale models can propel municipal, as well as commercial, projects toward successful completion.
