The gypsum sands are like snow. In the south of New Mexico, they stretch on for miles. There is almost 300 square miles of rare white sand dunes. And the sand doesn’t get hot, so you can explore barefoot. Just watch out for roadrunners and the bleached earless lizard!

The model for White Sands National Park covers a huge area, the entire Tularosa Basin, containing the park and bracketed by the San Andres Mountains to the west and Lincoln National Forest to the east. Access to the park is outlined and park trails and other visitor information is detailed.
